This is the name that we give to many of the activities and ideas which describe our present and our future, with an ethical content and a clear objective of environmental sustainability. They are protocols, behaviours and procedures which we adopt to favour the environment and are defined as our way of communicating the conscience and sense of responsibility with which we present ourselves to consumers.

SOSTAIN foresees continual improvement towards growing levels of sustainability. Forward steps are continuous and the results are measured through the achievement of goals, in a scale up to 10, although it is a ‘never ending list’ on which the tenth step (we completed the first nine in 2015) will never be achieved, according to the principle that it will always be possible to take further steps forward.

SOSTAIN is the first great project of Italian environmental wine growing certification, developed by the University of Piacenza in collaboration with the University of Milan. Planeta, linking traditional and organic viticulture, seeks to apply scientific and technological innovations. The programme is distinguished by transparency of communication, multi-disciplinary management of topics considered, and a consistent, innovative and coherent scientific approach.

Quality Management System

Aziende Agricole PLANETA s.s adopts an integrated quality system that complies with the requirements of the Quality Management System contained in the UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 standard.

The company offers a coherent body of cultural and hospitality activities aimed at conveying, starting with wine, the positive values that drive its operations.

On quality, the company, fully aware of the importance of regularly delivering products that meet customer requirements and mandatory requirements, has decided to implement a Quality Management System (QMS). In addition, with the goal of continuous improvement, the management is committed to establishing a specific program to increase customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system and all processes to continuously improve it, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and mandatory requirements.

ORGANIC CERTIFICATION

Planeta represents the history of a Sicilian family and its agricultural operation for almost five centuries and seventeen generations. Our approach to sustainability considers agriculture’s value as an activity which not just respects, but successfully co-lives with the surrounding environment. It applies the most possible non-interventionist agricultural practices, and invests energies from research programs to cultural initiatives, enhancing the outstanding regional resources and the conservation of the local area.

The set of cultivation protocols and behaviours that summarize our vision are resumed under the name of Planeta Terra, which program considers farming both as a vehicle for sustainability and a source of well-being for man and nature. Since 2021 the entire cultivated area – vineyards, olive groves, almonds and cereals – is under organic certification.

Planeta is also one of the founders and promoters of the SOStain® program, established in 2011, in which is also certified since 2014. This program through the SOStain Foundation provides and develops the regional sustainability protocol for Sicilian viticulture, adopted already by more than 30 Sicilian wineries, with the aim of stimulating research and higher education to develop a culture of sustainability at all levels.

Wines

Our tendency towards innovation and modernity has never distanced us from any historic and traditional interpretation of wine. Our patient and meticulous researches have always been directed to the past as much as to the future; on the one hand profoundly linked to the oldest Sicilian traditions of wine making with its heritage of indigenous varieties, and on the other an interest in those international grape vines which are best adapted to these territories, without neglecting the most vigorous and imaginative investigations into other varieties.
