ORGANIC CERTIFICATION

The totality of our land is dedicated to certified organic grapes production. They are picked in February at night and by hand, to prevent high temperature from damaging the grapes and to keep them at their peak of maturation and freshness on their way to our high-tech facilities, where they are immediately processed with the greatest care. Quality and naturalness from the soil to the bottle is their motto, as they wish organic natural wines to deliver the best of Nature to the customers.

Due to a unique terroir and to our organic methods, due to low yield production and optimum ripeness, due to professional winemaking and permanent search for excellence… our organic wines have been awarded international recognition, namely through many quality diplomas.

ETHICAL STANDARDS

In 1997, after identifying the specific needs of the local community, particularly of the workers of the Sonop wine farm, Jacques Germanier established the Mountain View Community Property Association  (CPA).

Sonop gave 10 ha of fertile land to the CPA to enable the workers to grow their own vineyard and their own food at their own benefit. Moreover, Jacques Germanier has been providing them with continuous training, technical assistance and adequate machinery.

Each member of the community permanently employed on the premises belongs to a provident fund as well as to a medical fund, and has access to adult education. Organic wine as a consistency: Respect of Nature and consideration for the people complement naturally when it comes to growing grapes, to making wine and to selling it.

Sustainability as an evidence

Highly impressed by the unspoiled environment and by the social fragility of the natives, Jacques Germanier instinctively chose a responsible approach and naturally fulfilled the conditions and the principles of sustainability:

  • in 2005, he converted his vineyards into Organic.
  • he settled the Sonop Community, providing the locals with jobs and education as well as decent conditions of life, according to the international Fairtrade standards.
  • as an experienced and humanist businessman, he managed to match productivity and profitability to profit sharing and local reinvestment.

A sustainable wine has to combine environmental assets, social responsibility and economic viability.

The soils of pure granite with a high potassium content offer considerable grape quality potential. In some places, granite formations are mixed with varying percentages of clay and shale. A southerly wind blowing from the ocean prevails throughout the year, helping to cool the vineyards and bringing mineral particles. The specificity of the climate and of the terroir favors red varieties such as Shiraz, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot However, some interesting white wines, such as Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc are produced.
